5 Timelesss Pinoy Christmas Songs

Known to have the longest Christmas celebration in the world, the Philippines, which also happens to be a nation of music lovers, has been ushering in the Yuletide season with several iconic Pinoy Christmas songs. Year after year, these timeless tunes fill the air with cheer making the most wonderful time of the year extra special and remarkably Pinoy.

Ang Pasko ay Sumapit

One of the most popular Pinoy Christmas songs ever, Ang Pasko ay Sumapit has been a national anthem for Christmas caroling events and activities in the country describing the birth of Christ in an upbeat melody.

But, did you know that this song is an adaptation of a Visayan Christmas song ‘Kasadya ning Táknaa’composed by Vicente D. Rubi and Mariano Vestil in 1933? A tagalog version was made and popularized later on by National Artist Levi Celerio.

Pasko Na Sinta Ko

Pasko na Sinta Ko is listed down as one of the most romantic and sentimental Christmas songs ever written in the country, depicting the story of a person longing for his beloved at this time of the year. Recorded and covered by the Philippines’ top ballad singers such as Gary Valenciano, Sharon Cuneta, and Basil Valdez, the song has since then been embedded in the (broken) hearts of many Filipinos.

Christmas in our Hearts

You know it’s the start of the Christmas season in the Philippines when Jose Mari Chan takes over almost every music playlist with one of his most iconic songs ‘Christmas in our Hearts’.  A favorite piece in Christmas caroling competitions and performances, the song perfectly conveys the true and deeper meaning of Christmas celebrations in the country.

Kumukutikutitap

With its joyful and festive melody, Kumukutikutitap is indeed a Pinoy Christmas classic that definitely evokes good vibes for the Christmas season. Written and popularized by Filipino composer and music genius Ryan Cayabyab, the song is about the bright lights and glimmer of the holiday season in the Philippines brought about by the vibrant displays featuring different kinds of parols—the country’s national Christmas decor.

Himig Ng Pasko

Originally written and performed by APO Hiking Society, Himig Ng Pasko has become a staple Christmas song that occupies a prime spot in every Filipino’s Christmas playlist.

With its rather mellow tune, Himig ng Pasko has differentiated itself from the usual upbeat Christmas carols while still expressing the most important meaning of Christmas. It’s one of those moody tunes that really get you reflective–or emotional even.
