5 Common Statements That Really Mean Something Else

There’s more to the words that people say. When your friend utters something, what does it *really* mean? Let’s decode.

“Papunta na.”

Weh. If this is the answer you get upon asking someone you’re waiting for where they are, it’s highly likely that they had just woken up from a sweet nap and is going to be late. This could mean anything from “papunta na sa banyo” to “papunta na sa sakayan”. Tsk. Tsk.

“Text text!”

This pretty much means you’re never going to talk again unless absolutely necessary. Normally used when planning something that wasn’t finalized, it’s either you’re going to decide on everything last minute or not push through at all. This one’s a favotire of those who don’t want to commit. #hugot

“Ok naman.”

Basically, it’s not ok. Nope. The same goes for “Ok lang.”

“Nakapambahay lang ako ha.”

Do not, under any circumstance, take this literally, lest you end up underdressed. For most, it just means they’re wearing shorts or something casual but not exactly what they’d wear as pambahay (which could range from oversized shirts to undies). It’s something not madam, but most definitely not aliping sagigilid. Also, better over than underdressed.

“Wala na ‘kong pera.”

Yung bes nating sinasabi ‘to lagi pero gastos pa rin nang gastos. Whoever says this is either lying or just exaggerating, because if they’re truly out of money, what they’d really say is, “Pautang naman!”
