As if not satisfied in making us all remember our similar pain in the past, McDonald’s made use of the popular 90’s song ‘Tuloy Pa Rin’ to compliment the story of a girl overcoming her heartache and finally accepting the change for a better life—a perfect #Hugot execution, indeed.

Capitalizing on the sudden popularity of spoken word poetry in the country this year, Nestle Philippines’ Bear Brand Adult Plus tapped poet Juan Miguel Severo for its latest TVC in celebration of Labor Day.
The popular milk brand perfectly conveyed a powerful and heart-warming message, showing appreciation for the everyday struggle of a Filipino worker—from the difficulties of commuting to work, the tiresome feeling at the end of each work day, and the prejudice over Monday—and expressing encouragement for them to never lose their hope and passion and instead, keep on going.
As a salute to our country’s unsung modern day heroes, Bear Brand successfully reminded the Filipino workforce that, in the end, all their sacrifices are worth it.
Cebuana Lhuillier – Surprise family reunion and celebration
Microfinancial solutions company Cebuana Lhuillier succeeded in tugging our hearts with the release of its three-part video advertisement featuring real-life stories of their actual remittance clients.
The commercial shows a surprise mini celebration of an occasion the clients missed while they were away working and an emotional reunion between them and their respective families. One client was treated with a surprise birthday party, the other one with a Christmas celebration, while another was surprised with a marriage proposal.
Cebuana Lhuillier brand ambassador, actor Alden Richards personally greeted and delivered the surprise to the unsuspecting clients while they were transacting inside a Cebuana Lhuillier branch. Clearly putting into the spotlight those who have always put their family’s needs first over themselves, the commercials end with the line, “Alagang binibigay mo, ibabalik namin sayo.”
Smart Communications – LGBT-themed ad
In a bold attempt to tackle a sensitive topic in a rather conservative country like the Philippines, a local telecommunications company, Smart Communications, stirred public interest and earned praise from netizens when it released a digital video advertisement of a common occurrence (yet typically avoided) among Filipino families.
The video portrays the story of a gay man’s anxiety about his father finding out about his true sexual preference and the relationship he has with a same-sex partner. The clever ad made use of popular a social networking site’s way of approving a friend request as parallelism to the father’s acceptance for his son’s situation.
The company showed the uneasiness and struggle of the protagonist to keep his secret from his father but decided to come out and approve the request in the end. The ad ended with a double entendre and a tear-jerking text message between the two characters telling that they have both accepted each other—literally and figuratively.

Johnson’s Baby Philippines released what was probably the most heart-warming Mother’s Day special to date as it captured and conveyed to the viewers the worries of every mother to give only the best for her children. The material features a deaf mother character, by the way.
